What is Castopod?
Castopod is a free, open-source podcast hosting platform developed by Ad Aures. It lets podcasters publish episodes from their own server, distribute them through RSS to podcast apps and directories, view built-in analytics, and interact with listeners through the Fediverse. It is written in PHP on the CodeIgniter 4 framework and released under the AGPL-3.0 licence.

Castopod requirements
- PHP: PHP 8.1 or higher
- Database: MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.2+ (MariaDB recommended by the docs)
- PHP extensions: intl, curl, mbstring, gd, exif
- HTTPS with an SSL certificate
- Cron task running 'php spark tasks:run' every minute (needed for imports, Fediverse broadcasting, WebSub and video clips)
- Optional: FFmpeg for video clips, Redis for caching, SMTP for password recovery emails
Castopod is a PHP and MySQL/MariaDB application, so it fits standard cPanel hosting when the required PHP extensions are enabled. It needs a cron job running every minute and HTTPS, and audio files consume disk space and bandwidth.
