What is Elgg?
Elgg is an open-source social networking engine and framework written in PHP, managed by the Elgg Foundation, a nonprofit. It provides profiles, groups, activity streams, blogs and file sharing, and is extended through plugins and themes. It is used to build community sites, social intranets and campus networks.
