phpBB is a free, open-source bulletin board (forum) system written in PHP and released under the GPL-2.0 licence. Its code is developed in public on GitHub. It lets communities run discussion forums with subforums, permissions, private messaging and moderation tools, and it can be extended with styles and extensions.
