What is Question2Answer?
Question2Answer (Q2A) is a free, open-source platform for building question-and-answer sites, written in PHP and backed by MySQL. Visitors post questions, answer them, comment and vote, and earn reputation points. It is developed on GitHub under the q2a organisation and is used for support forums, knowledge bases and community help sites.
Project status: The latest release is 1.8.8 (25 July 2023) and the most recent commit visible on the official GitHub repository dates from 26 July 2023, so there has been no release for over three years at the time of research (September 2026). It may still run, but expect no new fixes from upstream. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.

Question2Answer requirements
- PHP: PHP with the MySQLi extension; the install docs quote an old PHP 5.x minimum, and release notes for 1.8.7 and 1.8.8 mention PHP 8.x compatibility fixes
- Database: MySQL (install docs list 4.1 or later, 5.x recommended)

- Apache or Nginx web server
