What is ATutor?
ATutor is an open-source, web-based learning management system used to develop and deliver online courses. It focuses on accessibility and adaptable navigation and is released under the GPL. Its official repository now states that user-level support has ended and that new maintainers are being sought, so it is best treated as legacy software.
Project status: The official GitHub repository is headed 'NO LONGER USER LEVEL SUPPORTED' and asks for volunteers to take over maintenance. The latest release, 2.2.4, is dated 2018 on Softaculous and June 2023 on GitHub, and is documented only for PHP 7.2 and MySQL 5.7. Not recommended for new deployments. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.

ATutor requirements
- PHP: PHP 5.0.2 or higher per official docs; PHP 7 support added in 2.2.3, 2.2.4 updated for PHP 7.2
- Database: MySQL 4.1.10 through 5.6 (5.7 support added in 2.2.4)
- PHP extensions: MySQL, zlib, cURL, mbstring, GD with JPEG support
- Apache highly recommended
- Database user able to create tables (and databases if needed)
ATutor documentation covers only PHP up to 7.2 and MySQL up to 5.7, so it needs an older PHP version than most current setups use. Because the project is no longer supported upstream, new sites should consider an actively maintained LMS.
